Symptoms
- The motor is noisy, grinds or knocks when you set off.
- Assistance drops out although the battery is charged.
- The motor jerks or kicks in with a delay.
- Assistance works only sometimes — after a puddle or on bumps.
- The motor wheel has play or turns stiffly.
What we repair
If the winding is damaged or the repair would cost more than a new motor, we tell you after diagnosis and offer a replacement.
- Planetary gears — in geared motors they wear out fastest.
- Motor bearings.
- Hall sensors and the pedal sensor.
- Motor cable and connectors — chafed, flooded or with oxidised contacts.
- Sealing after water got in.
Why a courier’s motor wears out faster
Several hours of riding a day, constant starts, rain and road salt in winter. A motor that lasts years for a leisure rider can wear out in a few months for a courier. That is why, when we repair it, we also check what is likely to fail next.
Common questions
Do you repair both rear and front hub motors?
Yes. A motor wheel needs the cable disconnected and the wheel removed — we do this every day on our own fleet.
How much does a motor repair cost?
It depends on what has worn out. We give the price after diagnosis and always before the repair.
